Public health centers

Public health centers are comprehensive health and hygiene facilities that play a central role in assisting Shibuya’s residents to lead healthy, pleasant lives.
Physicians, nurses, public health nurses, nutritionists, and dental hygienists provide residents with health counseling and checkups and carry out a broad range of duties related to the prevention of illness and contagious diseases, food sanitation inspections, and public hygiene.
Facilities in Shibuya include the Shibuya Public Health Center, Central Public Health Consultation Center and Ebisu and Hatagaya Public Health Consultation Centers.

Cancer examinations

Checkups for stomach cancer (barium with X-ray test or endoscopy test), colon cancer, lung cancer, uterine cancer and breast cancer are offered free of charge.
Since each checkup has eligibility restrictions determined by age, please call the applicable office if you would like to receive these checkups.

Dental checkups for adults and to maintain and enhance oral functions

Examination vouchers are sent to people aged 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85 and 90.

AIDS tests

An AIDS antibody test is the only means of determining whether you have been infected with the HIV virus and tests are conducted at the Shibuya Public Health Center.
The test requires only a small amount of blood and can be taken anonymously.
Privacy is strictly maintained and test results are only given to the person concerned.
In order to obtain the most accurate results possible you should wait 60 days or more after you think that there was a possibility of infection.
Tests are offered free of charge on an appointment basis once a month on the third Thursday of the month.

Tokyo Metropolitan Testing and Counseling Office (Shinjuku)

This facility is a permanent testing and counseling center established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Social Welfare and Public Health.
Testing is available free of charge from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays on an appointment basis.

We offer consultation services concerning infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, influenza and Covid-19.
