Although bicycles are an environment-friendly and convenient means of transportation, bicycles and motorcycles left in front of train stations or on roads are dangerous impediments to pedestrian traffic, are unsightly, and have become a major issue for society. The city government has taken measures to remove bicycles that are illegally parked. When disposing of your own bicycle, please contact the Waste Collection Office and dispose of it as large-sized trash.

Impounding illegally-parked bicycles

No-parking zones

Any area where there is a particularly large number of illegally-parked bicycles is designated a “no-parking zone.” (The area around the following stations are no-parking zones: Sasazuka, Ebisu, Hatsudai [North and South Exits], Yoyogi-Uehara, Hatagaya, Sangubashi, Yoyogi [East and West Exits], Sendagaya, Shibuya, Shinjuku [South Exit], Hiroo, Yoyogi-Hachiman and Yoyogi-Koen Stations. The area around Shimizubashi crossing is also a no-parking zone.)

Other areas

Bicycles are impounded if they have not been removed as of the day after a report is received.

Bicycle parking lots

There are bicycle parking lots (parking fees charged) in areas around stations with designated no-parking zones. Please use a bicycle parking lot instead of leaving your bicycle in front of the station.

Storage area for illegally-parked bicycles

All storage areas are open from Monday through Sunday (excluding public holidays and from December 29 through January 3), from 1 to 7 p.m. (until 5 p.m. on Sundays).

How to get your bike back

Bring your personal seal, bike or motorcycle key, and personal identification. There is a fee of ¥4,000 for bicycles and ¥6,000 charge for motorbikes. Bikes not picked up after one month will be disposed of.
